The Hotel

We are proud to be members of 'Welcome to Yorkshire' (formerly the Yorkshire Tourist Board) and 'Visit York', and have been classified as a 2 Star Hotel by the Quality in Tourism organisation. As 2 Star Hotels go, we believe that we are one of the best in town, certainly when it comes to value for money!

In 2006 we were a finalist in York Tourism Bureau's 'Hotel of the Year' competition, which was a great achievement for a small, independent, family run hotel.

In December 2009 the reception, bar and lounges were given a much needed facelift, with new seating and soft furnishings, and a lick of paint all round (which included the proprieter, managers, housekeeping staff and chefs all contributing to the painting, decorating and cleaning up afterwards!). We will post new photos as soon as we can. The front of the hotel has also had some attention and the white paintwork really gleams in the bright Yorkshire sunshine!

This is a comment from a recent satisfied guest from the USA:

Dear all,

I just wanted to say hi and wish you all well.  I’ve been remiss in doing this, having stayed there in early May, then at Aldwark, then back to the Wheatlands.

In my considerable travels, I’ve not been to a hotel so hospitable and accommodating as the Wheatlands Lodge.  It was particularly warming for me, a Yank, to feel so welcome while so far from home.  In reality and even during a very busy race week in York, it was more like visiting friends or family, rather than simply finding lodging in a hotel.

You have a special, if not unique, atmosphere at the Wheatlands—family run and family warm.  I look forward to being there again, coming up the walk amid the fine gardens, knowing my stay there will add to the fond memories I’m enjoying now.  So, until we meet again…

All the best,

Cheers,
